The Perfect Floral Midi Dress for Colder Months

I love dresses. Like, really love them. Any time I put one on, I instantly feel more elegant and stylish. So, even though the temperatures are dropping, I’m keeping my wardrobe well stocked with fall and winter dresses, like this gorgeous Abercrombie floral midi dress. Not only is this dark floral pattern perfect for the fall and winter months, but the midi length is incredibly flattering for petites!

What Is a Midi Dress?

A midi dress—or skirt, for that matter—features a hem that falls midway between the knees and the ankle. This length works well for so many occasions: midi dresses can be styled for formal parties, for work, or even for a more low-key holiday get-together (even if they’re virtual this year!). I personally prefer midi dresses with a hem that falls slightly above my mid-calf, as I feel that this elongates my 5’2” frame, but midi dress hems that fall below mid-calf can work well, too!

Review of Abercrombie Floral Midi Dress

I was browsing Abercrombie’s site and immediately fell in love with the pattern on this floral midi dress. I love florals year round, and this pattern looked perfect for the colder months. The dress pattern contains multiple colors—midnight blue, orange, burgundy, and white—allowing you to style it in multiple different ways!

Sizing and Fit

I ordered this floral midi dress in both XS and S Petite. The small petite was the winner! It gave me room to move around, but still was form fitting and flattering. The dress is 42 inches long, and, as I mentioned above, hits above mid-calf for me. The bottom of the dress is fully lined and features a slit. I love the slit, especially for date nights or holiday parties with friends, but I’ll personally be wearing black tights with this for work to make it more office appropriate.

The v-neck front is flattering, and—bonus—very appropriate for work. The back of the dress features smocking that stretches slightly. The smocking is not so stretchy that I could size down to the XS petite, but it gives just enough room to hug your curves. Speaking of curves, this dress accentuates the waist so nicely. I do have a short torso, but this one hits really close to my natural waist. The gathering in the front of the dress also flatters the tummy area (and hides anything you don’t want to be seen!).

There is a hidden zipper in the back, though I did find it slightly challenging to zip up over the smocking in both sizes I received. This floral midi dress does have short sleeves, but keep on reading for styling suggestions for the winter!

Fabric and Care

The lining on this dress consists of 100% polyester, while the pattern itself is 68% polyester and 32% rubber. To be honest, I’ve never seen rubber in a fabric list, but the dress feels very comfortable. The fabric also feels substantial and durable.

I appreciate that this midi dress is machine washable. I personally wash all of my more delicate clothing items on either the delicate or hand wash cycles on my washer. Plus, I put my clothes in laundry bags for added protection. This one has washed beautifully so far.

How to Style a Floral Midi Dress

For warmer fall days, I’ve chosen to let the pattern of this floral midi dress speak for itself. I kept my jewelry minimal, just adding my favorite gold hoops and my wedding ring, and accessorized with a burgundy handbag (similar here and here). I added my favorite Rockport pumps, though you can also try strappy sandals if the weather is warm enough. For the winter months, I’d suggest adding over the knee boots and a faux leather jacket. Or, try layering a crop pullover or long cardigan for extra warmth!

Abercrombie has several floral midi dresses this season besides the one I purchased, including this black floral midi dress. Nordstrom and Asos have numerous gorgeous floral midi dresses on their site. And personally, I’m eyeing this velvet floral dress.
